Who is Doug Meroney - Photographer?

Being the son of a career Air Force Officer definitely had it's perks. Traveling and living all over the world gives one certain perspectives, especially about Art and Culture. My Father was probably the main instigator in my early fascination with photography as he always put his camera in my hands when we were someplace interesting. Special Services Photo Labs were a great place to hang out on Air Force bases and learning to process film and making prints was captivating. During my Senior year in High School in Germany I started making money with my photography. 45 years later, I am still taking pictures. Most every type of professional photography has been accomplished over the years - portrait, commercial, advertising, industrial, aerial, wedding, photo-journalism, copy & restoration, sports, scenic, medical, pet and my now favorite, panoramic. The switch from film to digital photography was simple and film has not been put into any camera since 2003. Old images from film shown on this site have been scanned and archived digitally.

Where does Fannie Finn come from?

In 2002 a building in Downtown Grayling, Michigan, was purchased for the purpose of establishing a Photography Studio and Custom Frame Shoppe. While researching the background of the magnificent Victorian styled building, a local historian helped document the history of ownership. In 1890, the Jackson, Lansing & Saginaw Railroad sold the empty lot to a woman named Fannie Finn. The first building was probably erected in 1891. Fannie (Haire) Finn was the wife of J. Maurice Finn, an entrepreneur, lawyer and politician. Fannie succeeded her husband/Postmaster in 1887 to become the first Postmistress of Grayling, Michigan. The first business was a dry goods store. Fannie sold the building in 1892 to another woman. Fannie & J. Maurice Finn moved to Cripple Creek, Colorado, in 1893, and she died in 1896. Many varieties of businesses operated from the building and many changes to the inside and outside were made. In the 1980's, Terry Dickinson, a local artist, had a unique vision for the Grayling Downtown & undertook the major exterior renovation that made the property so visually appealing. Fannie Finn's, Faces, Frames and Other Finery operated until 2007 and the continued ownership of the Fannie Finn web site honors Fannie & Grayling history.
